Done

All filming has been done with our music, magazine and poster. tomorrows lesson will be used to put the finishing touches to the poster and magazine as well as edit the music to fit with our trailer. We are extremely happy with our efforts although our university scene was not what we had intended due to complications with the location but was still done and needs to be included in the trailer.

Comments on rough edit

As Othniel put up the rough edit of our teaser trailer on youtube and facebook we have recieved positive reviews and comments. We have gone through these comments as a group and have took into consideration the feedback, and are due to make slight adjustments with our editing such as make some of the scenes shorter to give it a more action packed feel to it.

Starting our poster and magazine

As we have all our pictures of our characters and locations we have been able to start on our magazine and poster front covers. We split up into two groups with me and Michael doing the magazine and Othniel and Romaine doing the poster. We took a trip to southfields set up by sir to use their software which is photoshop. Me and Michael got a lot done as we already know what the magazine should look like but we encountered a problem as the picture we was going to use for the magazine was not of the protagonist. Luckily enough we had the props and a camera to take the photo needed for our magazine. The poster is also coming along as it is a montage of photos that we took. However we did not finish in the time provided so we will have to finish it at school, but we did pick up some tips which was very helpful in using photoshop.

Poster ideas

Poster Ideas

We want our poster to be a montage of pictures of the characters and other images relating to our trailer in a similar format as these two posters. This way we can include all pictures of the characters and to give a busy/ chaotic feel to it which compliments our movie plot.

Rough edit for CREAM

This is just a rough edit which Othniel put up on youtube for feedback the music is not the what we will be using for our production as we are currently making the music for the trailer. We also have yet to add title screens as well as edit the non diegetic sounds and do the voice over as the protagonist. All in all we are very happy with how it has turnt out but having seen the trailer I think we need one more shot which shows redemption that I will discuss with my group that can replace the library scene.

Editing shots

I am very pleased with our efforts and have had some positve feedback from the class, especially the police scene although we wasn't able to use some of it due to the camera not being steady. We have many shots which we had to cut down because of the length we need to make the trailer, however this makes our trailer action packed and tense. We followed the shot list reasonably well but changed around a few things as we thought it would look better and for continuity. For example when Joell tell Birdie too get the money you see a next shot of Birdie in a sports car with a gym bag and in a different contrast of clothes from a hoody to a smart jacket.

Library scene

Unfortunatly the lady from the film office got back to me and said we had to pay to film in the library. This was disapointing as we had our hearts set on filming in this library. We asked if the school would contribute towards the payment but they would not saying everything had to be done on our own merit. This leaves us having to find a substitute for the library scscene as no universitys or librarys we have tried will let us film.

Started Editing

Today in lesson we could finally start editing as all but one scene is done. We already have ideas on how we want our teaser trailer to go, so we set on cutting the footage and getting rid of anything we don't want. As we are following the shotlist we have already started putting the scenes in chronological order. I will post up the rough edit at a later date.

Location Pictures

Since we found the library to shoot in, I managed to take all photographs of our locations since we still could not find a place to do our last scene till today. The photos contain numerous locations used in our shots, they are done in the daytime although most of our film was done during dusk and evening. They will be posted up on a later date.

Filming in the library

Today I visited a local library which I used to go too to ask if we could use the library to film. This resulted in asking permision from the manager. She agreed so long as we had permission from the film office. They then gave me a number to contact Miss Wright who works at the film office, and after talking to her on the phone she said it would be fine as long as we set a specific time and date as well as fill out a form she was going to send to me via email. Since we only need 2 people to film the scene me and othniel will discuss when it is best to do it.

Filming Done

Today we managed to touch up on all the scenes we wanted to reshoot, we are genuinely happy with all our shots. Now we need to upload it to the apple mac and begin our editing, having said that we still cannot find a university to film. We have asked South bank, Portsmouth, East london and Kingston but we was denied by all four as we were not students from their university. We are going to have to change our location and film in a local library tomorrow to finish.

Avatar teaser trailer

I chose this teaser trailer as I believe the music was the most important aspect of this trailer. Also it leaves us with hardly any clues on what this film is about but keeps us wanting to find out more. It starts with a montage of the Earth with cities, the weather, people, plants growing and even destruction. This shows a generalisation of earth with the non diegetic sound of music that has a happy feel to it. It then switches the mood as it shows the planet and space. The music too changes which I felt had a discovery/ adventure feel to it. the music then builds up as the text suggests the possibility of other life in the universe adding suspense. Finally the music changes to something more sinister as you are shown a planet with the text showing the release date of the film as well as being promised to be shown these aliens. The music turning sinister gives the feeling that these aliens may not be friendly which leaves us the audience on the edge of our seats. Final cut scenes are of the directors name James Cameron in big and bold as he is a renowned director with the film title Avatar. What was interesting was the font used which was alien with the music reaching its climax before fading to black

Car scene

We have just done our car scene which we almost left out due to difficulties finding a car to do our shots with. We decided to also make the scene as a exchange with one of the characters Birdie picking up a unmarked gym bag while driving away. I am pleased with this scene however as we shot it around 11pm we are hoping not to have too much problems with the lighting. We will be meeting up tomorrow to hopefully finish off all our filming as everyone was not available today.

Music production and editing

Our friend has a studio that is local to us, so we have decided to create our own music for our teaser trailer using his studio. I have visited him to get in grips with the software as I have a level 1 in piano. Once I have got to grips with the software and have finished our filming we will film us creating the music in the studio. Also another member of our group has been practising editing by creating his own piece in basketball which I will post up at a later date.

Last part of filming

We have had a few problems with locations such as filming in the university, to people not being available on the day we needed to film due to other commitments. This meant delays and a few adjustments to filming our scenes such as changing actors, but hopefully we will be done by this weekend. Also I have managed to get a car for one of our scenes which we had trouble with before and if we have time we will add it to our shots. Finally we will take photos as we need to for our magazine and poster covers.

Constructive criticisms

In our lessons we showed what we had done in terms of filming and asked the class to give us feed back. Most of the feed back was positive especially with the locations as they said we had a nice range of locations as well as good choice of locations for our story plot. In our kidnap scene they said that the bin bag used to cover the head of the victim needed to be changed as it was too flimsy. Finally for the university scene they said that the costume for the main protagonist should change to something more mature. So we are deciding to change his outfit to something smart but casual as well as light colours showing purity, redemption and maturity.

paranormal activity 2

I thought this trailer was interesting as it is done on a low budget but being able to shock and awe viewers. it was cleverly done and shows a good teaser trailer can be done on a low budget. Also I liked the idea in how the shots were done like a video camera surveillance. This gave us a fly on the wall effect making it seem more realistic while giving us an impression that this film was documented rather than created. Finally we have a scene that we incorporated into our shots which is similar to this one. This is where the person goes flying into the camera. We decided to use this technique as a point of view shot of one of our characters getting punched in the face.

Last film scenes

We have done most of our shots now and are in the final stages of filming. However we have not been able to do the university scenes which is due to problems with the location as well as other scenes we want to tidy up due to bad weather or clothes. We have also decided not to place everyone in the last scene as it gives away too much in a teaser trailer opting instead for the protagonist to walk off in to the distance.

Portsmouth

As South Bank was not accessible to us we decided to try portsmouth to film our last shot as we have friends that go there. So we plan to ask if we can film on the premises and hopefully make a trip down there on the weekend. If we cannot film there we will have to try Kingston.

finding a university

In our shooting plan we have a shot of the main protagonist studying in his university. This however has become increasingly difficult as we must ask permission to be able to film, as well as find a university that will allow us to use their premises. Also there are not many universities local which limits our choices. We had decided to try South Bank university in Elephant and Castle however we was rejected.

Filming

We had started filming on the 8th of january in Stockwell on an estate around evening. We obtained a couple of establishing shots during dusk as well as the residents around their to give our film a more authentic feel. However we had only done a handful of shots and need to go back there for more filming which we plan to do around the 16th of january. we also need to discuss where we are going to do the university scene which we will plan on a later date.

Product Design

As a class we went to southfields to learn how to create our posters using photoshop. We were taught many techniques and used mainly their examples and photos given to create a poster to our standard. However this was done in November so our group would have to remember what was taught in one lesson. We have also asked our teacher to organise a trip back there so we can do our posters from southfields as they have the better equipment and software but this time with our photos.
